Interesting take on the Foursquare/Gowalla situation. I personally like Foursquare because it seems to have a larger community than Gowalla here in Toronto, and I also like the idea of being the Mayor of wherever I am.

Gary Vee is partnering with everyone these days! I am impressed at how many people he got to add a "Crush It" book to their Twitter Avatar. My favorite Wine Library TV episode of his is a show he did with Wayne Gretzky.

The Gowalla virtual gift exchange is a cool idea, and if Gowalla gifts could be given to people on Facebook that would be an excellent enticement for me to play Gowalla more often!

I prefer Gowalla after initially using Foursquare. I personally think Gowalla has more room to grow (look at the partnerships that Gowalla is forming with people like Gary V of Crush It and Wine Library TV) and offers a more compelling incentive for users through the virtual gifts that are collected, swapped and dropped. This feature alone is so much more interesting than the offer of becoming mayor of a location on Foursquare, which I found soon grows tiresome. With Gowalla I can trace the movement of any of the objects that have passed through my "hands" as they get picked up and dropped all over the place. And from what I hear Foursquare can only be used in major cities, where Gowalla can be implemented nearly anywhere. Keep you eye on Gowalla, I expect big things. (I have NO affiliation with Gowalla, I am just a big fan)
